No parent enjoys taking his or her child to the doctor’s office for a shot, much less to have a doctor stick many needles in the child. While the parent knows that acupuncture could help the child, the child does not understand this. For that reason a form of acupuncture that does not involve needles has been created for children to take the sting and the ache out of this form of natural healing.

It was first developed in Japan and is known as shonihari. Shonihari when translated is “children’s acupuncture” or sometimes it is referred to as “acupuncture for children”. This natural healing technique took many, many years of being out through clinical trial and applications before it started to be used on children in clinics. It has proven to be very effective. Shonihari came into existence thanks to the efforts of a man named Mister Takayuki Kuwahara, L.Ac.

Shonihari does not involve the insertion of needles nor does it involve the piercing of the skin in any way but instead it is a “non-insertive” form of acupuncture that makes use of a number of implements made of metal that serve to stimulate both the acupuncture points and the meridians on different spots of the skin. By so doing, this allows the areas where the qi is weak to be strengthened and the area where the qi is blocked, they can either be unblocked or moved along.

In many acupuncture clinics a combination of children’s acupuncture and acupressure (also referred to as tui-na) are used to help young patients. In some cases herbal supplements may also be included if the acupuncturist feels it is warranted. These treatments that combine more than one area of treatments are proving to be highly effective and most parents are very pleased with the results for their children.

Before getting started with treatments, the acupuncturist or team of acupuncturists will take an extensive medical history of the child and will closely examine the symptoms. Then will then seek to look at the health problem the child is facing in a wider frame of reference.

For example is the child suffering a great deal of stress or emotional turmoil in his or her life at the present time? Often times besides the acupuncture treatments, it will be recommended that lifestyle modifications are made such as changes in the foods the child eats or the drinks he or she consumes as well as more physical activity is incorporated into the child’s life if the problem could in any way relate to a weight issue or depression.

Certain health conditions respond better to shonihari than do other. For example, this form of acupuncture is excellent for boosting a child’s floundering immune system as well as getting rid of sinusitis and sinus congestion. Shonihari also helps with pain in the joints and muscles, asthma and disorders relating to the digestive system.

A child that is suffering from loss of energy or fatigue, whatever its cause can often benefit from shonihari. Children’s acupuncture also helps a child to heal quicker from injuries that have to do with movement such as fractures, tears, strains, and sprains.

The major focus of an acupuncture treatment is to return the circulation of body energy to its normal levels. To do this, needles are used at points on the body indicated by the set of symptoms for the particular client. These symptoms may be physical, emotional, behavioral, and / or mental.

Simply, a needle is inserted at a point in order to either stimulate or dissipate energy. Energy may be dissipated from a point if there is too much activity, which can be indicated by such symptoms as heat or anger. Energy may need to be stimulated by acupuncture if there is seems to be a depletion, as in the case of dizziness or depression.

The points at which needles are to be inserted are determined by an analysis of the client’s symptoms, and the organs that are involved in those symptoms. Some change may be affected by simply using pressure on those points (a technique known as acupressure), but far superior results are obtained by being treated by an acupuncture practitioner.

There are a number of techniques for using the needles, as well as several different types of needles that can be used. Many modern acupuncture practitioners use small, disposable needles. They can be inserted to different depths, depending on the symptom addressed. It is interesting to compare how the technique to stimulate energy is different than the technique to dissipate energy.

An acupuncture needle used to stimulate energy is sometimes more effective when warmed. The point where the needle is inserted should be massaged before insertion of the needle. Puncture superficially, and then slowly insert the needle to its correct depth slowly, and remove it slowly. The needle should be inserted as the patient exhales, and removed as the patient inhales. The different points should be punctured in the order of energy flow. The needles should remain in place for several minutes, up to ten minutes.

An acupuncture needle used to dissipate energy is rarely warmed, and is inserted and withdrawn rapidly. The needles on average are inserted more deeply than for energy stimulation. The different points should be punctured in the opposite order from the energy flow. The client should inhale as the needle is punctured, and exhale as it is withdrawn. The needle need only remain a few seconds in many cases.

Comparing the two techniques, the technique to dissipate energy seems very similar to letting some air out of a balloon or other container: insert quickly and deeply. It is also interesting to note that the patient exhales as the needle is withdrawn, again releasing energy.

A good acupuncture practitioner never inflicts any pain. At most, there may be a slight feeling of a twinge upon the first insertion, but even that is not to be usual. A needle remaining in the skin is not felt at all as long as it is stationary, and most patients forget about them. There are a number of different kinds of needles, but the only noticeable difference to the client is the difference between a normal needle and a Japanese needle.

A Japanese needle is generally thinner and is inside a guide tube, so it will look distinctly different. Needles can come in various widths, with acupuncture needles used for dissipating energy generally thicker than the needles used for energy stimulation. I hope this introduction has both intriguing and reassuring, enough for you to schedule a first trip to an acupuncture clinic.

When the average person is asked about acupuncture they assume that it is Chinese traditional medicine that is being discussed. No westerner thinks about acupuncture without assuming the topic deals with the Chinese philosophy of using thin needles placed under the skin to relieve pain or help ward off illness. But this is not always the case. Acupuncture is not just a Chinese traditional medicine. Japan has its own form of acupuncture and while it is very similar, it does have its differences.

To begin with the Japanese method uses a different kind of needle. They tend to be somewhat thinner and are not inserted as far under the skin in the Japanese form of acupuncture. The benefit in this method seems to be that the needles are not even felt as they go into the skin making the patients more comfortable and more relaxed during their treatments. Japanese acupuncture looks at two types of treatment; root and local treatments. Local treatments are used for relief of the symptoms of what is bothering the patient. This is the type of treatment that is used for acute problems. Root treatments are used for the imbalances that cause the illness. These two treatments are often combined.

In Japan the body’s vital energy is called Ki, a similar name to the Chinese term which is Qi. The philosophy is similar in that the Japanese believe that the body’s energy must be in balance to keep the body healthy. They believe that the Ki cares for and nourishes the body and the mind. It provides warmth, assists the blood circulating through the body and fights illness when it attacks. But if this flow of energy is interrupted or blocked, if it weakens then illness can triumph.

So the acupuncturist must rebalance the Ki either by the use of the needles or by putting pressure, by using Shiatsu or acupressure, on the right points along the meridian lines. This can be all the body needs to slip back into a balanced position. Acupuncture is also used as a preventive treatment in Japan.

Japanese acupuncture uses a variety of different needles for different purposes. There is the goshin needle which is the one commonly used. These needles are the same as used by the Chinese but they are .12 mm to .18 mm in diameter which is dramatically smaller than those used by the Chinese acupuncturists. Their needles are usually .32 mm to as large as .38 mm. That is a significant difference. As well the needles are not inserted beyond 10 mm in Japan.

The hinaishin, or intra-dermal needle, was invented in Japan. It is a tiny needle that is barely inserted under the skin. The enshin needle is not for inserting at all but is used to massage the pressure points. It is often used for children or other patient who may find needles too scary. The ryu or press-sphere is a steel ball around 2 mm and is used to apply gentle pressure directly onto points that are painful.

Traditional Chinese medicine includes a number of different practices. Historically traditional Chine medicine is broken down into eight branches of treatment and these include in no special order: massage therapy (or tui na), acupuncture and moxibustion, Chinese herbal medicine, Chinese food therapy, qigong and related breathing as well as meditation exercises, t’ai chi ch’uan and other kinds of Chinese martial arts, feng shui (or the art of placement) and Chinese astrology. All of these are routinely used when it comes to TCM treatments with the exception of feng shui and Chinese astrology, which have nothing directly to do with the healthy of a person.

How safe is traditional Chine medicine anyway? This is a question that everyone should ask before they consider using any form of TCM to treat a health condition. Both acupuncture as well as its sister treatment acupressure have been found to be safe when done by qualified professionals who are trained in the field in question. Although very few research studies have been done, the few that have been conducted in regards to both of these disciplines have found that they are both safe practices when done in a controlled environment.

There have been rare cases where nerve damage, infection and pneumothorax has arisen from treatments of acupuncture but the reason for these was related to the negligence of the practitioner as opposed to an intrinsic problem with the treatment. There are cases where some patients will experience a bit of dizziness and others some bruising of the skin, and still others, a bit of both but thee are not common side effects experienced by the majority of patients.

Many governments the world over have deemed only those with extensive education be able to administer acupuncture as well as herbal treatments to patients. A finding from test studies is that problems resulting from acupuncture treatments are most often connected with practitioners who have taken the short route to learning acupuncture.

In other words those who have graduated from brief training programs as opposed to those who have graduated from extended TCM education programs and learned the practice thoroughly. When looking for a qualified acupuncture to treat you always find out whether the practitioner in question has gone through extensive training or has taken the swift route to practice.

There are cases in which certain kinds of Chinese herbal medicines have been found to cause allergic reactions in patients and in very rare cases, poisoning of varying degrees has occurred. Every year in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong there are cases of acute as well as chronic poisoning due to Chinese herbal medicines that take place and sometimes these cases result in death.

The deaths usually occur not because of a practitioner’s ineptness but because patients choose to self medicate themselves with herbs or else they choose to consume unprocessed kinds of herbs that are toxic. The most common case of poisoning in these parts of the world is due to the unprocessed and raw kind of fuzi or aconite. When it comes to Chinese herbal medicine, most often aconite is only made use of when it is processed aconite as the processed version has the toxicity levels “denatured by heat treatment.”

Relieving Migraine Throbbing Naturally

Cureing the pain and discomfort connected from migraine headaches can be ended easily. There have been lots of people who have found the relief they were looking for and have learned how to prevent migraine pain naturally. There are a lot of homespun treatments or accepted ways to care for migraines. When we suffer migraine headache smarting we habitually turn to over the counter or prescription drugs to relieve the soreness and distress.

In addition to the common headache treatments, it is possible to relive migraine headaches and soreness related with them by using other treatments or alternatives therapies. Peppermint oils are a super way to halt migraine pain naturally. The best and easiest way to do this is to lie down and rub on a little quantity of peppermint to your brow or on the back of your neck. Next put on a fan, relax for half an hour. You can furthermore add peppermint oil to bath water.

Another good way to help stop migraine headaches is by drinking a steaming hot cupful of lemon tea. You can also put in a few drops of honey. This has also been shown to stop the terrible pain from migraines.

Another technique to stop pain is by means of acupuncture and acupressure, which has become a trendy technique to relive that chronic headache naturally. These two techniques have been used for several centuries as methods to alleviate some problems, as well as migraine headaches, through particular stress points in the body.

Certain herbs can be used as remedies and preventatives for migraine headaches. Fever few for migraine headaches is very well-liked in Europe and has been shown to be extremely successful in relieving the pain related with migraine headaches. Migraine sufferers may possibly be able to find some respite in these treatments. Although it would be super if we all may possibly stop migraine pain naturally, it is highly suggested that you consult to your general practitioner prior to starting any natural type of therapy for your migraine headaches.

There are many offshoots of acupuncture that are lesser known to the population at large and one of these is acupoint therapy. Acupoint therapy is an extension of akupunkt massage which was created by Willy Penzel and is a part of his modern ‘APM system’.

Acupoint therapy allows for the stimulation of a variety of acupuncture points not with needles but by way of a therapy stick. Both acupressure and shiatsu are similar to acupoint therapy in that they utilize the practice of massage whereas acupuncture solely makes use of needles. Although many people espouse the value of acupoint therapy, scientifically speaking there is no evidence to support its effectiveness. The country that makes most use of this form of natural therapy is Sweden.

Acupoint therapy starts from the premise of traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Traditional Chinese Medicine teaches that the body has a collection of what is known as meridians. Each individual meridian has its own special function and each meridian has its own points and these points correspond to a variety of areas on the body as well as the system of energy.

According to acupoint therapists half of the meridians of the human body correspond to yin and half correspond to yang. The half that correspond to yin relate to the parasympathetic nervous system and this is associated with a reduced level of blood pressure, a slower heart beat, the release of stress from the muscles and a deeper feeling of relaxation.

The meridians that correspond to yang are associated with increased activity of the sympathetic nervous system, which is to say a faster heart beat, a higher level of blood pressure, tension and stress as well as more as opposed to less contractions taking place in the muscles. The main goal of acupoint therapy is to bring the two nervous systems, the parasympathetic and the sympathetic (which is to say the Chinese yin and yang) to a point where they can be in balance as well as perfect harmony with one another.

The therapy stick that is used in acupoint therapy looks a lot like an implement you would see at a dentist’s office although at its end it has a small ball. This ball has a diameter of approximately a few millimetres. In one version of acupoint therapy, the therapy stick is used to stimulate along a specific meridian line. It works by way of vasodilation which then causes the stimulation.

To test this out on yourself to see how it works simply take any blunt object that is pointy (such as for example a match stick) and run it along your inner forearm and watch carefully about what happens. It will take a few minutes but you should eventually see a red line appear where you traced the line along your arm. If you see the line then this is known as vasoconstriction. There is also another version of acupoint therapy and in this instance, individual points on the skin are stimulated with the therapy stick as opposed to any particular length along the meridian.
